forrest blog 7

At the very beginning they did not no what to think of the white man and his iron horse. So they decided to kill him. After they killed him there entire village was wiped out and they decided that was not such a good idea. When they came to umofia they thought he was rather amusing and paid no attention to him. They just wanted to see his iron horse and liked listening to them sing. They did not think it was a big deal and they allowed him to stay. But soon after he started converting more and more people to there new religion. Soon they became to powerful for anything to be done. The white men started taking prisoners when they did something they didn't like. Then they would beat them and make them do hard labor. The British mostly view them as dumb savages who are just getting in their way of colonizing. When Mr. Brown was there it was not that bad for the natives. But when he got sick and had to leave it got much worse. They brought Mr. Smith in to replace him and he did not respect the natives at all. He started to beat them and too far more prisoners.

In mbanta the proverb mother is supreme means that when you need comforting you come back to your mother. Okankwo will not acknowledge these and he suffers in any ways. He thinks that whenever you show even the smallest amount of weakness you are puny and girl like. he thinks that girls are weak and can not be looked up upon. He will not acknowledge that females have many thing they can do. this causes many problems for him. like when he beat his wife in the week of peace because he did not respect her.

Forrest's opinion of okonkwo

I view okonkwo as a tall strong man with a  short temper. I think he is a mean man who is not very kind to others. I think this because he always talks with his fists when he is angry because h stutters when he try's to talk. he also beat his wife when she went out to get her hair done. This would normally not be a bad thing in there culture but he did it on the week of peace when it is forbidden two beat or kill people because the gods are getting ready for the planting season. he also thinks everyone is lazy from his sons to his own father. Even if your father is lazy you are not supposed to think of him as worthless. but okonkwo is also a had worker. when he got his first yams and planted them and a drought came he built little tents over all of them to try and get them to survive. Even though he started out his life with no yams from his father and was already in debt because of his father he managed to make a living for himself.
